A peaceful rainy day destination for a creative mind

While it's true that the Portland Japanese Gardens are sure to be enjoyed by just about anyone, my partner and I came here for a very specific reason. We are both full-time artists, which means we are also business people, accountants, pitch presenters, copy editors, and so the list goes on. It means we're tired and it means we still want to stoke the creative bonfires that tend to ebb and flow within each of us.

Making a visit to the Japanese Gardens typically results in a sense of rejuvenation. My love + his sketchbook and me + my camera, moving slowly about the spacious grounds, we take it all in. I enter this place not unlike the way a creative moves through a museum. Although, this art is curated by artists as well as mother nature which has its own romanticism in a way, doesn't it? Taking a few deep breaths, I simply wander and follow the light around. It may seem contradictory in text, but on a rainy and overcast day, these gardens really shine.

I hope you have a chance to visit, you can find more info & hours here.
