Affirmations to support Mutual Aid
I'm just a human who thinks that all humans (and their furry friends) should have their basic needs met. Food. Water. Shelter. Love. This is why I think that mutual aid is the way forward and have been looking for ways to more consistently contribute in my area. (Portland, OR)
As I research different ways one can be helpful to the cause, I kept thinking of the popularity of my little affirmations zines. Whenever I have them at art events or markets, they are usually a hit. It makes sense to me that my little anticapitalist affirmations are resonating with folks, people are exhausted with the system, and rightfully so.
I decided to put a few of my favorite zines together to create this "Raining Cats & Dogs," bundle for mutual aid. Each bundle costs $10 and $5 USD from every zine bundle sold will be given to my favorite local mutual aid groups. They're available now in the Print Shop
What's a Zine?
A zine (pronounced zeen) is a self-published work, could be writing, could be art, could be many things, typically created by hand and photocopied for distribution at a low cost, or for free. Zines have served as a significant form of communication in many subcultures.
The concept of zines can be traced to the amateur press movement of the late 19th and early 20th century, which would in turn intersect with Black literary magazines during the Harlem Renaissance.
From the Harlem Renaissance, to the science fiction era of the 30s-60s, to the Riot Girrrl movement of the 90s... there is so much to learn about zines in history!

I hope to find my place in this movement, care to join me?
